DISTRICT POLICIES REMINDER
CELLPHONES POLICY
No student shall possess, on his person, an electronic telecommunication device throughout the instructional day.
Students CELLPHONES MUST BE TURNED OFF and placed in the CELLPHONE BOX daily. The students will receive their phones back at the end of the day.
CLEAR BAG POLICY 4th - 12th GRADE
Only clear, see-through tote bags, backpacks, or similar items will be permitted.
MESH SCHOOL BAGS WILL NO LONGER BE ALLOWED.
Small, non-clear bags for hygiene items may be carried inside clear bags.
Athletic and equipment bags must be checked in with a coach or sponsor upon arrival to the campus.

UNIFORM SKIRT POLICY
The district has introduced a clear standard for dresses, skirts, and skorts length. MUST be NO SHORTER than TWO INCHES above the knee all the way around when standing.

All students will be allowed to wear KNEE-LENGTH shorts (color of their school pants).
HOODIES POLICY
A student will not wear a hat, cap, or hooded garment to school.
BEVERAGE POLICY
Soft drinks and energy drinks are not allowed on JPSchools campuses for consumption. Students should discard these beverages if brought from home as soon as they arrive on campus.
Exceptions: Students are permitted to bring PLASTIC water bottles/PLASTIC WATER CONTAINERS to school for hydration throughout the day.
NO METALLIC WATER CONTAINERS will be allowed.
COMMERCIAL FOOD / FAST FOOD
It is against Federal Guidelines to bring commercial food/fast food (Cane’s, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, etc.) on campus.
Student violations of the policies will result in disciplinary actions.

What is the notice “LDOE Complaint Procedures”
The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has formal complaint procedures to investigate allegations that a public education agency, charter school, or school district is violating the LDOE's laws. Anyone can file a written, signed complaint with the LDOE, including parents, adult students, individuals, or organizations.

Back to school is right around the corner, take a moment to mark your calendars! JP Schools is continuing Smart Start for the 2025–26 school year! This staggered start gives middle and high school students (grades 6–12) their own dedicated first day, allowing staff to focus on welcoming each grade level and helping students transition into the new year with confidence.
Smart Start Schedule Highlights:
All students who attend an Elementary and Pre-K–8 school begin August 11(Note: This is for students who are in grades 1–8)
All students who attend an Elementary and Pre-K-8 school begin August 14-15 (Note: this is for the PreK and Kindergarten students only. Please contact your individual school if you have specific questions regarding school start date)

Fun in the Sun Family Literacy Day


Louisiana has launched participation in the 2025 SUN-Bucks program for school-aged children this summer. SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, provides grocery-buying benefits to low-income families with school-aged children when schools are closed for the summer. Each eligible child will receive a single payment of $120 for the summer, with benefits being issued in multiple phases beginning in June. Most eligible families will get SUN Bucks automatically, but some parents will need to apply.

Ke’maria Stovall is a proud 7th grader at Granville T. Woods Elementary School who loves how welcoming the school is and appreciates the support she receives from her teachers. Her favorite class is ELA because she enjoys writing essays and using her imagination in creative writing.
Ke’maria is the captain of her dance team and understands the importance of doing well in school, knowing that good grades open the door to many opportunities. She describes herself as funny, positive, and smart, always looking for the good in every situation.

We were able to share this donation not only with our Kindergarteners, but also our Pre-K students.
Setting JP Schools students up for success from the very beginning!


The Louisiana Legislature passed a law this spring that prohibits students from using electronic devices (cell phones) on school property during the instructional day.
Our current policy also says that electronic devices such as cell phones must be turned off and stored out of sight during the school day. As a reminder, violations of School Board Policy JCDAE will result in progressive discipline in accordance with the JP Schools Code of Conduct as set forth in the Procedures and Policies for Parents and Students.

The Student Council is a student-led organization that was created to make sure student voices are heard and prioritized. The students participate in a fun campaigning process, give speeches, and are elected by their peers (K-8) to represent them throughout the school year.




Support your child to be successful in school
Help your child understand that school is their very first job!

Make great school attendance a priority for your child.

Talk to your child about the importance of daily attendance in every class and how it helps his/her learning.

When students miss school so much, they will not be prepared for the next grade.
Help your child develop good habits

Help your child practice good daily habits like:

finishing homework and placing it in his/her backpack

laying out clothes and the backpack in the evening

having a regular bedtime for a good night's sleep

leaving early enough in the morning to get to school on time.

turn off electronic devices one hour before bedtime.

Help your child build responsibility skills by reminding them to make up for any missed school work after an absence.

School Wide Pep Rally and Goal Setting Day October 6, 2022
G.T. Woods would like to say a big, "Thank You," to Proclaimed Community Outreach. As a part of their grant, we were able to surprise our students with free snowballs after our School Wide Pep Rally and Goal Setting Day. Students received their data binders and set their personal goals for the year, and then ended the day cooling off with a refreshing snowball.
